General writing guidelines:
Use British English spelling (colour, legalise, etc).
We will proofread your work but please take care to avoid grammatical and spelling errors.
Be prepared to substantiate claims but no formal in-text citations, footnoting may be appropriate. depending on the context.
You are not required to write a headline / subtitle. If you do, it may be modified for publication.
Avoid use of the first person (I, me) unless you a writing a personal essay, narrative non-fiction, or similar.
Avoid overly florid language (extended metaphors, highly emphatic language, etc).
We have a zero-tolerance policy for AI-generated writing, please use AI proofreaders and editors sparingly and take care for these tools to not alter your writing.
When including imagery with your writing, please ensure you are not breaching copyright (permission from source or public domain imagery) and that the original creator is cited.
Please upload as a .docx .txt .rtf file, and NOT a .pdf for ease of editing.
For opinion articles, op-eds, you are welcome to editorialise your points. It will be made clear these are your opinions. For feature articles, journalism, and reporting, please maintain ethical standards with any included interviews, photographs, and names. Please obtain the express permission of persons involved and, where necessary, mask their identities. We do not ask you to maintain neutral, but integrity is a must. Researched essays, critique, and reviews may be editorialised but should have a sound argument.
For artwork, photography, and other visual forms of communication:
We only accept original work.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for AI-generated imagery (this includes upscaling and other "enhancing" tools).
Regarding explicitness, we will review work on a case-by-case basis. We will not publish symbols of hate.
For physical mediums (paintings, etc) please submit a high-quality scan/archival photograph.
We welcome submissions in other formats not mentioned - narrative non-fiction, poetry, etc. If your work doesn't fit every editorial guideline, do not hesitate to get in touch regardless.
